Planning permission has been granted by Wokingham Borough Council for a residential development at Finch Road, Earley. The project will consist of six, three-bedroom houses with private gardens and parking.
The project is a great example of a joint venture and partnership working between a small private developer, Burrwood Homes, and Wokingham Borough Council’s housing development company, Wokingham Housing Limited (WHL). By combining two adjacent sites and swapping some land, the partnership replaces two old properties with six brand new houses. –The deal includes using Francis Construction to build the new homes and will provide four homes for outright sale and two homes for shared ownership (part buy/ part rent) that will come to Loddon Homes, the Council’s wholly owned housing association.
The scheme forms part of the strategic programme of housing development across the Borough by WHL to create high quality affordable, social and market homes for local people across the Borough of Wokingham. Deals like this turn underused pieces of Council land where the Council spends money cuttings the grass, into much needed homes for local people that also provides an income stream back to the Council to pay for more housing and essential public services.
Bill Flood, Managing Director of WHL said: “I am delighted that planning approval has been granted for this scheme which is a great example of partnership working between a private builder and council-owned local housing companies that makes best use of the Council’s assets. We aim to start work on site very soon and have completed the new homes by Spring 2018.”
