Female contribution to the housing sector recognised with award nomination

Wokingham Borough Council’s wholly owned Local Housing Companies (LHC) – Wokingham Housing (WHL), Loddon Homes and Berry Brook Homes – today announce that group Finance Director, Rachel Harrison, has been shortlisted for the ‘Women in Housing’ awards. Now in their seventh year the awards highlight the amazing work and achievements of the many women who make a major contribution to the housing sector.

Rachel, who has been shortlisted for Finance Professional of the Year, joined the LHCs in 2017 with a wealth of experience in management consulting, investment banking and private equity. Rachel was new to the housing industry and quickly came up to speed enabling her to assume responsibility for the company’s financial business planning and forecasting, as well as ensuring that the organisations remain well funded. This astute financial accountability enables the LHCs to deliver on their objective of providing as much social and affordable housing as possible, while also providing an income stream back to our sole shareholder, Wokingham Borough Council, to help fund essential public services.

Of the nomination Rachel commented “I am delighted to have been short-listed, it is great to be recognised amongst my peers in the housing industry. What’s more, it is fantastic to be part of a growing number of women in this sector, where over 70% of our own workforce across the LHC’s are female. We are a great team that are responsible for driving positive change for the Borough”.

Bill Flood, Managing Director for the LHC’s said “Rachel made an impact from the moment she joined us, immediately identifying areas for improvement and streamlining our financial reporting and processes. This is nothing short of the recognition she deserves and I wish her every success at the awards ceremony”.

The awards ceremony will take place on 10 October at the Emirates, Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester.
